World Day Against Child Labour 2021

“Child labour perpetuates poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, population growth, and other social problems” – Nobel prize winner Kailash Satyarthi

World Day Against Child Labour is observed on June 12 every year in almost 100 countries all around the globe. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO) and UNICEF, the number of children in child labour has risen to 160 million worldwide – an increase of 8.4 million children in the last four years – with millions more at risk due to the impacts of COVID-19. It has become the need of the hour to steadily spread awareness about the illegal practice of child labour and encourage people to abolish it.

Krishnagar Public School, Nadia had organized an awareness programme on the 12th June, 2021. The students, on virtual platform, actively participated and showed their interest to spread awareness about the harmful mental and physical problems faced by children forced into child labour, across the globe. They shared short videos enacting the various aspects regarding the practice of child labour. They prepared banners, posters and delivered short but meaningful messages on Child labour and children’s rights.

The students with their utmost dedication, tried to participate in the event and raised their voice against child labour, addressing the need to ensure every single child their basic human rights.
