Every year, on 2nd October, Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated as one of the National Festivals of India as it marks the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Father of our Nation. This day is also is known as the International Day for Non-violence and Peace across the globe. Gandhiji played a significant role in India’s freedom struggle and also inspired millions of Indians during his lifetime. His life, values, and his expansive literary output have made a huge influence on people in our country and around the world.
The students of Krishnagar Public School celebrated Bapu’s 151st Birth Anniversary virtually this year with zeal, enthusiasm and a patriotic feeling. The virtual programme commenced with Bapu’s favourite hymns - ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ and ‘Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye’, soulful rendered by the school choir. The students of Pre-Primary dressed themselves as Gandhiji and chanted some of Bapu’s most popular quotes. The students of the primary section displayed their artistic talents as the showcased the Gandhi caps and spectacles through their Origami art work learnt and perfected during their virtual Co-scholastic class. The students of the Middle School participated in a virtual Group Discussion on Gandhiji’s contribution to our National Struggle. Students of Classes IX and X displayed the posters they made on Important Revolutionary Step that has been taken by Gandhiji. Students of Classes XI and XII shared a presentation on the Major National Movements led by Gandhiji.
The Mahatma rightly said, “Sanitation is more important than independence”. Keeping up with the spirit that inspired the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan launched by the Government of India aiming to address the problems of sanitation and waste management, the students also presented a short skit upholding the importance of the cleanliness. The video of the students’ work has been released as a video on the school’s YouTube handle.
“Whenever we think of Gandhiji, two words come to our mind – truth and non-violence. Bapu was a staunch believer of these ideals and preached that honesty was the virtue of being truthful to self and society. We always entreat our students to be honest and always speak the truth. But we also try to ensure they imbibe Bapu’s relentless courage and spirit, which is why we attempt to encourage even the most shy children to participate in activities, and with wonderful results.
