International Day of Persons with Disabilities

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed on 3rd December every year. It not only aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development but also to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of social, political, economic and cultural life.

The theme for International Day of Persons with Disabilities this year is “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world.” The global crisis of COVID-19 is deepening pre-existing inequalities, exposing the extent of exclusion and highlighting that work on disability inclusion is of vital importance. Even under normal circumstances, persons with disabilities are less likely to access health care, education, employment and to participate in the community. People with disabilities are one of the most excluded groups in our society. They are among the hardest hit in this crisis in terms of fatalities.

Krishnagar Public School, Nadia took special initiative on a virtual platform to raise awareness and celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with disability. The students tried to make everyone aware of the challenges of people with disabilities on this special occasion. The Tiny Tots of Classes I and II made colourful drawings to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. The Students from Classes III to V beautifully made drawings and posters celebrating the challenges, barriers and opportunities for people who live with disabilities, in the context of a global pandemic. The students participated in the event spontaneously and showcased their skills.
