“Books are a uniquely portable magic and there is no friend as loyal as a book.”
World Book Day is a celebration to promote the enjoyment of books and reading. Each year, on 23 April, celebrations take place all over the world to recognize the scope of books - a link between the past and the future, a bridge between generations and across cultures. 23 April is a symbolic date in world literature. It is the date on which several prominent authors, William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega died. Surprisingly, there are several other famous authors who have also died on April 23, like William Wordsworth and David Halberstam. Krishnagar Public School celebrated World Book Day this year by involving the students from classes I-XII, in various activities. Students of classes 1 to 2 were asked to make book marks. Students of classes 3 to 5 were asked to make display chart on story book that they have read. Students of classes 6 to 8 were asked to write graphic stories. Students of classes 9 and 12 were asked a book review on the latest book they read. All the students participated in the activities enthusiastically. World Book Day was marked by encouraging students to read more books. Reading books will expose them to new ways of understanding the world and handling situations.
