Mock Parliament 2023

It was an exciting day (on Aug 14, 2023) for the students’ as well as the teachers’ at Krishnagar Public School, Nadia, as they put on a Mock Parliament (Monsoon) Session in the school campus with the help of Mr. Naresh Chandra Das (Chairman), Amitava Guha (Director), Nabanita Guha (Trustee), Dr. Sankar Prasad Dutta (Principal), Dr. Ramesh Kumar Agarwal (Vice-Principal), Mrs. Rekha Goswami (Headmistress [Primary]), Ms. Indrani Bhattacharyya (Headmistress [Secondary]). The purpose of the activity was to replicate the structure and working procedures adopted in the Indian Parliament, the union legislative body in the country. The students acted as elected members of the Parliament and discussed various contemporary important issues like NEP 2020, G 20 summit– its common facilities and amenities, achievements, programmes and other matters of attention.

The participants did a role play in a typical setting of the Lok Sabha – the Lower House of Parliament.  They started off with a Question Hour and discussed matters of urgent public importance and followed up with a question-and-answer period. Monami Biswas took over the role of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and Mamtai Shaikh performed as a Prime Minister. Dr. Sankar Prasad Dutta, the principal, said that the students performed extremely well. They embraced their role with great aggression and fierce debate making for a very realistic atmosphere.

The Mock Parliament session was organised by a diligent team of the Department of Social Science, they put their best effort into making it an informative and interactive sitting. Students ended the day with a greater understanding of new education policy, G 20 summit and how the House of common people works as well as demonstrating to everyone an exceptional flair for debating. The session was adjourned with a realistic and relevant question-and-answer period.
