NELSON MANDELA DAY CELEBRATION

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.

       Nelson Mandela International Day is also known as Mandela Day which is held on 18th July each year. Nelson Mandela Day not only celebrates Nelson Mandela's life but it is also a global call to action for people to recognize their ability to have a positive effect on others around them. The day remembers Mandela's achievements in working towards conflict resolution, democracy, human rights, peace and reconciliation.

        Nelson Mandela was born in South Africa, on July 18, 1918. He was one of the most well-known anti apartheid activists in South Africa. He was imprisoned in ' Robben Island ' prisoners were never referred to by their names, but rather by their numbers and year of imprisonment hence 46664 was Nelson Mandela's number. His efforts resulted in him becoming elected as South Africa's president until 1999. On November 10, 2009 the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring July 18 as “Nelson Mandela International Day “.

        Our students participated in the celebration with great enthusiasm during their stay at home. On this occasion we introduced Mandela Day for students from class IX to XII. Students of class IX had prepared their own rules and regulations especially with regards how we should treat each other via Power Point Presentation and students of class IX and X together they made various posters against caste and gender discrimination. Even the students of class XI (HUMANITIES) gave a special speech on Nelson Mandela Day through video and students of class XI (SCIENCE) spoke about the life of Nelson Mandela. In the senior segment students from class XI (COMMERCE) prepared various slides with the famous quotes by Nelson Mandela.
